I own & run a lovely guest lodge in the middle of the Cape Peninsula, Cape Town, South Africa. Being an avid birder myself and having extensive local area knowledge has been a great advantage in attracting the number of wildlife & birding tour operators to our destination, that we have to date. I am personally willing to assist with planning of itineraries, if necessary & place operators in contact with birding guides, pelagic tour operators, suitable accommodation slightly further afield etc., etc. Afton Grove is ideally situated in the centre of the newly proclaimed Cape Peninsula National Park, only 20 minutes to the city centre, 40 minutes from CT International Airport and yet set in a lovely tranquil country setting. Birding begins in our own 2 acre garden with wetlands virtually across the road. Nearby birding spots include:- 1) Wetland (opposite) - marshland & scrub species (walking distance) 2) Blackhill, Glencairn - fynbos species (5 mins.) 3) Kommetjie Sewage Works - waterbirds (10 mins.) 4) Kommetjie Coastal - sea & shorebirds (15 mins.) 5) Simonstown Pelagic departures (15mins.) 6) Boulders Penguin Colony, Simonstown - (15mins.) 7) Rondevlei & Strandfontein Waste Water Works - waterbirds - (20 mins.) 8) Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens - Garden, forest & fynbos species (30mins.) The list goes on.......... but as you can see we are actually perfectly located on the Cape Peninsula to reach all the birding & other "must see" attractions. One recent pelagic (boat based seabirding) trip had 8 different species of Albatross.
