I assume this is the song, a very deep series of mournful notes (& would very hard to make a better recording of a wild bird), very quiet. I was within 8m of the bird (out of sight) making this recording before it flew almost vertically into the canopy - the wing noise at the end is this flight.

Probably the same bird as XC268074, or another bird in the same area. Recording made from c.100m distance.

This deep fairly rapid call was heard regularly in the very early morning and at dusk. Whilst I did not see the pigeon making these vocalisations, several local people told me this was the crowned pigeon, including local bird guides.

Sclater's Crowned Pigeon - Goura sclaterii Philippe Verbelen 2012-10-08 Kali Muyu river, Boven Digoel, Papua, Papua Province (Indonesia) (50 m) song -

Headphones are required to hear the (distant and low pitched) song of the Southern Crowned Pigeon. Birds were fairly common in this area and often heard vocalising at dusk. Not a great recording to say the least but since so few material is available ...
