A female flew in and landed by him and the male immediately started to tap the snag in front of the female in an excited and vigourous manner. A clear mechanical display, not 'drumming' as most woodpeckers do, but as I observed it, very close to that in function. The male was not foraging, these were clearly taps done to display to the female. There is another male calling in the background. Recording not edited in any way. bird-seen:yes playback-used:no
