Alaudala [rufescens, heini or cheleensis] (= Alaudala rufescens) (Vieillot, 1819)

The Mediterranean short-toed lark is a small passerine bird found in and around the Mediterranean Basin. It is a common bird with a very wide range from Canary Islands north to the Iberian Peninsula and east throughout North Africa to parts of the Middle East. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has rated its conservation status as being of "least concern". Source: Wikipedia

  • Alaudala heinei [heinei or pseudobaetica]: breeds from Ukraine and eastern Turkey east to eastern Kazakhstan and (disjunctly?) to southern Mongolia; wintering in the Middle East and southwestern Asia
  • Alaudala heinei persica: S Iraq and Iran to se Afghanistan
  • Alaudala heinei [aharonii or niethammeri]: breeds central Turkey (Anatolian high plateau); partially migratory, wintering to central Syria
  • Alaudala cheleensis cheleensis: E Transbaikalia and n Mongolia to ne China
  • Alaudala cheleensis leucophaea: Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan (south of the Kyzylkum Desert),and western and southern Kazakhstan, east to Lake Balkhash and the Fergana Basin; winters in southwestern Asia
  • Alaudala cheleensis [kukunoorensis, seebohmi, beicki, stegmanni or tangutica]: northwestern and north central China (Xinjiang and northeastern Tibet to Gansu and Ningxia) and southwestern Mongolia
