Curve-billed Thrasher - Toxostoma curvirostre celsum Richard E. Webster 2013-03-10 Rodeo, Hidalgo County, New Mexico, Hidalgo (United States) (1200 m) song -

Bird No 2 singing until about 6:00, then Bird No 1 came over with a silent interaction at 1 m with tails fanned, No 2 became subservient, and No 1 climbed up and sang its less impressive song until after about 9:00 Bird No 2 climbed up and sang more energetically; do both birds of pair sing, or was this a low level conflict?; some vocal appropriation; [just checked BNA, which says females do not sing]; recording improves when the House Sparrows shut up!

Curve-billed Thrasher - Toxostoma curvirostre celsum Richard E. Webster 2022-12-29 Portal, Arizona, Cochise (United States) (1400 m) song, whisper song -

singing from 4 m up on top of a spike on top of the yucca; eventually another bird flew in and perched next to the singing bird, which immediately stopped singing loudly, went down inside the dense part of the yucca where they have nested before, and sang whisper song after 3:55 as it moved around in there, the other bird staying on top; the singing bird emerged and perched on another nearby spike and continued to sing whisper song, eventually going silent; gray, raw morning before rain; another singing in the distance; some construction noise in the background;

Curve-billed Thrasher - Toxostoma curvirostre celsum Richard E. Webster 2022-04-23 Portal, Arizona, Cochise (United States) (1400 m) call, song, rattle -

one bird calling, another present, switching at 0:39 to a different bird that was counter-calling from another territory; churring rattle at 3:05 as four interacted, mostly silently, from adjacent mesquites in a territorial fuss; then the second bird, which had given song phrases earlier, sang from a sycamore limb 12 m up, some gaps and some of it low gain, taking off at the end; a great little interaction rattle after 6:34, again at 6:53, 7:07, heavily mixed with Cactus Wren, continuing with more standard calls, these from probably the first bird/pair giving clicking rattles and regular calls; some thrasher phrases sweet like a Scott's Oriole (not present in the recording); intervals shortened at 3:06, 3:42, 6:25 to remove partial annotations; quality A to C, best for the rattles after 6:35;

almost complete set of dawn calling; primary territory in our yard; at least three birds involved, with some sort of unsettled relationship; one silent chase on the ground; some counter-churring and then soft churring from two birds, e.g., 2:48 to 5:14, after 6:15 to 7:16; many gain adjustments trying to deal with loud calls versus quiet calls;
