Male mainly giving 'plick' and 'p-plick' calls. Clear 'chew' series around 7 s and 22 s. Two song notes (bird did not complete the phrase) at 7.6-8.0 s. Mauritius Grey White-eye at 12.2s and 14.6 s, other calls are Red-whiskered Bulbul.

Two juveniles working through undergrowth giving repeated, down-inflected 'tseew' calls at c. 6-9 kHz. Adults do not give this call. Mainly appears to be for contact. Distinguishable from the uninflected call of juvenile Red (Madagascar) Fody. When begging from parents, it is accelerated into a rapid series of squeaks. All background calls below 6 kHz are Red-whiskered Bulbul.

During nestbuilding, a sequence of very rarely-heard high-pitched 'tseer' calls at 0.7 s intervals, almost certainly given by male, this is an extract from a series lasting 80 seconds

During nestbuilding, female giving harsh bzz-bzz-bzz-squeak or bzz-bzz call, male responding with 'chew' notes. Also two brief plick calls at end.

Pair. Many plick calls, most single and may have been either sex but stuttering 'p-plick' and fast series ('splutter-plick') are the male. Loud buzz-squeak calls at around 4 s and 21 s are female response notes. Quiet male 'chew' at 19.8 s.

Both fodies singing simultaneously. Mauritius Fody at 2-5 s giving series of 3 'chew' notes either side of territorial song, and at 13-14.5 s giving 4 'chew' notes followed by song. Red (Madagascar) Fody singing from 4.5 s onwards, higher-pitched, insect-like at 6.5-9.5 kHz; also a quiet 'tsip' at 0.6 s.

'Plick' calls of one of two 3-month old juveniles taken into captivity aged 1-2 days, so with almost no exposure to adult calls. Innate 'plick' call characteristic of the species, in these juveniles sound is more lisping or 'wet' than on adults, especially males.
