- Anthracothorax prevostii: gallery forest, mangrove, shrubby savanna, and open habitats on the Gulf of Mexico slope from southern Tamaulipas, Mexico, southeastward across Central America, including the Yucatan Peninsula, to northwestern Panama, and in the Pacific slope southeastward to central Costa Rica; also in San Andrés and Providencia islands (Colombia) and in the lowlands of northern South America from the Guajira Peninsula of northeastern Colombia eastward across northern Venezuela to the Paria Peninsula (vagrants to southern and southeastern USA)
- Anthracothorax prevostii prevostii: eastern Mexico to Guatemala, Belize, and El Salvador
- Anthracothorax prevostii gracilirostris: El Salvador and Honduras south on the Pacific slope to central Costa Rica, and on the Caribbean slope to northwestern Panama (Bocas del Toro)
- Anthracothorax prevostii hendersoni: islas Providencia and San Andrés (off eastern Nicaragua)
