Bird giving calls that I was not familiar with (usually gives high, thin 'seet' calls). Saw the bird clearly while it was giving this call. Recorded in very young dry thorn scrub (4 m tall) with little cover of the forest floor (dark ground, muddy in places). Is this an alarm call? It gave the call after I imitated a Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl.

Bird singing in a small tree (6 m tall) in the backyard of a farmhouse in the hamlet of El Cedral. Natural recording. A second individual can be heard in the background.

Bird singing in top of 20 m tree in a small shade-grown coffee plantation. Some background noise from wind and from a calling rooster. Recording unaltered. Three songs on the recording, all three double whistles, with very short introductory phrase. One recording on Macaulay Library from El Salvador has triple whistles.

A family of two parents attending two recent fledglings. In the field, I did not have the impression that the fledglings were producing different calls from the parents. Habitat: shrubby fields. Recording unaltered.
