Unmodified recording made in a very dry open meadow, with only a few trees and shrubs dotting the landscape. Rainstorm imminent, clouds rolling in with visible sheets of rain. Unseen Clay-colored Sparrow sings three times on recording, with varying number of calls in each song; best series starts at 45 seconds. Songs are very insectlike. The raven was flying in the distance, some of the time in the direction of the sparrow. Many lichens of various colors on the ground. This was not far from where Upland Sandpipers were recorded (XC815121 and XC815122) a few minutes earlier.

Habitat: Big grassy fields, both sides of the road, noisy because of traffic.

Recorded from close range (~5m) in rather open ca.10-year-old pine/spruce plantation, partially hidden by tree branches. Recording has been somewhat attenuated below 1000Hz to reduce background (traffic, aircraft) noise. The bird was singing at this pace for several minutes before I began recording. This two-syllable song type is the only one I've heard at this site.
