Mountain Pygmy Owl - Glaucidium gnoma Jay Hand 2007-09-22 Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas, Brewster (United States) (1700 m) call -

Bird was calling on its own, unsolicited, from a hidden perch in an oak tree somewhere off the Pine Canyon Trail in Big Bend NP. My recollection of the habitat is that it was rocky and vegetated, neither densely nor lushly, with scrubby and mid-height (30 feet) trees (oak, pine, juniper) and other shrubs and plants. The weather was sunny and warm. Recording was modified only to convert it from its original .WMA format to .MP3.

Northern Pygmy-Owl (Mountain) - Glaucidium gnoma gnoma Rose Ann Rowlett 2020-07-12 Cave Creek Canyon--South Fork, Cochise, Arizona, United States, Cochise (United States)   - Two cuts of a Mountain Pygmy-Owl that started calling and came into a tall Doug Fir above us in response to my whistling. It was then chased by Acorn Woodpeckers way upslope into the crown of another tall Doug Fir. It then started calling again a few minutes later. This was along the S. Fork trail near the "Bathtub". Background of first cut includes: Western Wood-Pewee, Acorn Woodpecker, Blue-throated Mountain-gem, Spotted Towhee, Rivoli's Hummingbird. Background of second cut includes: Hermit Thrush, Western Tanager, Western Wood-Pewee, American Robin, Blue-throated Mountain-gem, Canyon Wren. Recorded using a Fostex FR-2LE with a Sennheiser ME62 & Telinga Universal 22" parabola. 249203121

Northern Pygmy-Owl (Mountain) - Glaucidium gnoma gnoma Rose Ann Rowlett 2020-07-12 Cave Creek Canyon--South Fork, Cochise, Arizona, United States, Cochise (United States)   - A juvenile is begging for food, calling from a dead branch of a live oak on the slope of a rather open section of S. Fork below the "Bathtub" a short way, probably in the same territory as the adult I recorded earlier this morning (ca. 8:00AM) just above this site. There was a second pygmy-owl that flew past this one and disappeared, possibly one of the adults. In the background are: Elegant Trogon, Dusky-capped Flycatcher, Brown-crested Flycatcher, Canyon Wren, & distant Bridled Titmice. I'm not sure what the 3-note sound is near 01'06". 249204891
