The yellow-breasted bunting is a passerine bird in the bunting family Emberizidae that is found across the Boreal and East Palearctic. The genus name Emberiza is from Old German Embritz, a bunting. The specific aureola is Latin for "golden". The bird's call is a distinctive zick, and the song is a clear tru-tru, tri-tri. Source: Wikipedia

  • Emberiza aureola: subarctic to northern temperate Palearctic bushy areas, from Murmansk (far northwestern Russia; formerly from eastern Finland) eastward to southern Chukotka, Kamchatka, Kuril, and Commander islands, Sakhalin (eastern Russia); in south to far northern Kazakhstan, far northern Xinjiang (northwestern China), northern and central Mongolia, northern Inner Mongolia, and Heilongjiang (northeastern China), and far northern Hokkaido (northern Japan); winters subtropical eastern Asian fields of sub-Himalayan zone from central Nepal eastward through southeastern Asia (except southern Malay Peninsula) and southeastern China
  • Emberiza aureola aureola: boreal forest of Finland to Bering Sea; winters to Indochina
