| Southern Cassowary - Casuarius casuarius | Marc Anderson | 2013-05-08 | Helensburgh, NSW, Australia (Australia) (300 m) | call, male - Captive male bird. Would bow his head down and inflate his throat then emit this incredible call at exceptionally low-frequency <100hz . You'll need to have decent speakers or headphones to hear it well. bird-seen:yes playback-used:no |

The adults drive off the juvs but this female will tolerate it within about 5m before reacting bird-seen:yes playback-used:no |

| Southern Cassowary - Casuarius casuarius | Phil Gregory | 2013-03-17 | Cassowary House, Kuranda, Queensland, Australia, Queensland (Australia) (360 m) | call, juvenile, male - Over the past few days I spent several hours trying to tape the deep infrasonic 3 or 4 syllabled 'departure call' of our male Cassowary, which he gives once or maybe twice each visit, over a couple of hours stay, and only in the mornings oddly enough. He bows his head and fluffs out the neck and back feathers to give this very deep rolling grunt, which you can feel in the pit of your stomach. I finally got it this morning, with him just below me off our veranda, but when I play back the ME 66 Sennheiser mike does not seem to have picked it up! Very disappointing bird-seen:yes playback-used:no |

| Southern Cassowary - Casuarius casuarius | Phil Gregory | 2016-05-13 | Cassowary House, Kuranda, Queensland, Australia, Queensland (Australia) (360 m) | aircraft noise just at the loudest part of the interaction, alarm call - The male was reacting to the presence of a newly arrived female, very anxious about her arriving here; this type of call is given when chicks are very small, as well as when alarmed in this sort of situation. It is very deep toned and grunting, best listened to through headphones, he calls some 4 times in this cut, with very short preamble grunts in a couple of cases. The female was calling for him yesterday, a higher pitched less grunting version, but I missed the chance to tape her, getting female calls is extremely challenging as they are so infrequent. bird-seen:yes playback-used:no

| Southern Cassowary - Casuarius casuarius | Jeremy Hegge | 2014-01-03 | Daintree Rainforest, Queensland, Queensland (Australia) (40 m) | call - Microphone left in a dry creek bed surrounded by tropical lowland rainforest. Recording has been edited to shorten the intervals between vocalisations which happened over around 5 minutes and the bass frequencies have been amplified significantly. I am assuming the cassowary was sleeping in the forest near to where I placed the microphones as I did near any walking through foliage before or after the vocalisations. bird-seen:no playback-used:no |
