  • Caracara lutosa: formerly Guadalupe Island (Mexico); extinct, last reported 1900
  • Caracara plancus [plancus]: northern Chile and central Peru eastward to the mouth of the Amazon River, southward to Tierra del Fuego and the Falkland Islands; intergrades with nominate cheriway along the Amazon
  • Caracara plancus [cheriway]: southern USA (Arizona to Texas; Florida) and Mexico (including the Tres Marías Islands) southward to Panama, and northern South America southward to northwestern Peru, northern Colombia eastward to Trinidad, the Guianas, and northern Brazil, intergrading with plancus along the Amazon; also Cuba including Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Pines; south of western Cuba)
