This was first listed as a mystery. See the forum. The first, loudest, call note at 0:01.0 is usually heard as a series of calls. Listen to XC305803. I'm pretty sure most of these Markdowns are also the Pied-billed Grebe. Two calls starting at 2:15.5 and a third at 4:21.0?

I was able to ID these, at 0:02.0 and 6:07.02, as Pied-billed Grebes. Grebe at 2:50.5

And the two calls at the end starting at 7:23.0?

These were recorded in a fresh water wetland habitat.

Any help with the background species is also appreciated.

Pied-billed Grebe - Podilymbus podiceps Dan Lane 2009-04-19 Walden Reservoir, Jackson Co., Colorado, Jackson (United States) (2500 m) song -

Response to playback from a bird in cattail-lined pond. As it vocalized, its bill was slightly open, and the throat was inflated with each note, the head appeared laterally inflated a bit as well. Eventually, it swam into the cattails, continuing singing (this cut), where it could not be seen.

I heard some of the calls from the direction of a pair of Pied-billed Grebes, and some of the calls unseen from the marsh

I frequently hear this call from the marsh in the winter, but unseen; I first assumed it was a Sora call, but I hear it from the direction of Pied-billed Grebes when not hidden in marsh vegetation
