Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae (Stephens, JF 1826)

The silver gull is the most common gull of Australia. It has been found throughout the continent, but particularly at or near coastal areas. It is smaller than the Pacific gull, which also lives in Australia. Source: Wikipedia

  • Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae forsteri: northeastern Australia (Northern Territory to east-central Queensland), and New Caledonia including Loyalty Islands; may be limited to New Caledonia
  • Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae scopulinus: coastal eastern New Zealand southward from North to Stewart Island, and inland in central North Island, also Chatham, Snares, Auckland, Campbell, and Bounty islands
