Uploaded tentatively as ‘true’ P. c. tristis, but with reservations:

1. Song - tempo/rhythm seems slower than true tristis: maybe this is plastic song (bird aged as 2nd cal-y spring). It does have vague similarities with subsong of a first-winter, published in Catching the Bug, Constantine et al ( 2012).

2. Call - not the classic 'peep' of tristis; rather, an upward inflected 'weet', higher in pitch than collybita, but not unknown in tristis (again cf. Constantine et al. 2012). Incidentally, this makes me wonder whether there is any element of plasticity here, or whether young birds in western Europe are 'learning' the upward inflection from collybita; or a combination of both.

3. Plumage aspect - a fairly typical-looking ‘grey and white type’ individual, but with olive hues to the crown, mantle and scapulars, and yellowish wash to fore-supercilium (photographs here): Again, not a classic tristis on plumage, but within known range of variability.

4. I have little or no experience regarding development and variability in vocalizations of tristis; or of vocalizations within zone of overlap with abietinus.

No sign of mixed song Phylloscopus collybita tristis / Phylloscopus collybita abietinus [then probable Phylloscopus collybita fulvescens sensu Marova & Leonovich (1993)] as possibly heard here by other observers.
