Spotless Crake - Porzana tabuensis Drew Davison 2020-11-07 Victoria Dam (near Canning Mills), Western Australia, Kalamunda (Australia) (170 m) call, life stage uncertain, sex uncertain -

Originally presumed to be a Buff-banded Rail, but further comparison of calls led to an ID conclusion of Spotless Crake. A few other recordings on xeno-canto labelled as Spotless Crake are similar, however the recordist did not see the bird any time a similar recording was made. Bird heard from dense reeds at base of dam, less than 1-2m away from the recordist.

'keek' vocalizations from a bird as it moved through pond-edge vegetation. Just previous to this, the bird had given the bubbling trill, which I didn't manage to record.

Recording has had some noise removal undertaken, and has been amplified in Audacity

Spotless Crake - Porzana tabuensis Dominik Maximilián Ramík 2020-10-17 Nusemetu conservation area, Tanna (Vanuatu) (240 m) call -

Anyone knowledgeable in Crakes can review this? Recorded in Nusemetu Conservation Area where Spotless Crakes were observed by locals. Calls coming from ground level at least two birds answering to each other at times from bush near a small muddy pond. Upon hearing the first whistles, I used Spotless Crake recordings as playback and the birds were answering to those calls sometimes. No bird seen. We are not totally sure about the ID and could not find any expert who would review the recording, but we think this is Spotless Crake as the only other bird whistling at night would be the Buff-banded Rail, which whistles somehow differently. The recording is a compilation of individual calls recorded from at least two directions in the span of maybe 20 minutes and they would be very hard to identify in the original recording, which is why I concatenated them.

Spotless Crake - Porzana tabuensis tabuensis Russell Cannings 2015-03-06 Cambridge Waste-water Treatment Plant, Waipa District (New Zealand) (30 m) call -

Recording not modified. Bird calling in response to playback, from large rushy clumps on the edge of a large waste-water ponds fringed by flax and cabbage trees. Only caught a brief glimpse of bird as it crept around some thick rushes. Light was fading (dusk) and the sight-lines weren't ideal. Bird called for over 5 minutes at a distance of ~8m. This was recorded on my android phone. There was a slight wind.

Spotless Crake - Porzana tabuensis Stewart Ford 2014-09-14 Yandicoogina, Western Australia, Western Australia (Australia) (500 m) alarm call -

No modification. Recorded on an iPhone 5s across from a reedbed where the bird was observed at the base of reeds, flicking its tail as it gave this call either as a warning or contact call (in response to call playback). There are four Spotless Crake alarm/contact calls starting at 0:03. Unfortunately the recording is faint and there are several other bird spp. calling. Weebill at 0:00, Australian Reed Warbler (single 'krok') shortly after the first crake call and Striated Pardalote, Zebra Finch and Painted Finch throughout the recording.
