Amplification, low and high pass filters used in Audacity. Cricket noise constant in background. Not sure of the source of the other high-pitched chipping sound (doesn't sound quite right for a Verdin, maybe the quail??). The male was perched 4m+ above me in a snag within a 5m+ tall, dense stand of coyote willows (Salix exigua) and tamarisk (Tamarix spp.) and was agitated by my presence beneath him.
