Chinese Sparrowhawks are theorised to vocalise only during the breeding period. But this recording (also video) proves that there are exceptions to the rule, and Chinese sparrowhawks can and do vocalise in their wintering grounds. However, the calls recorded here are quite distinct in their cadence to the ones recorded further north in the summer grounds.
