Natural vocalizations from single individual in dense woods. Prior to this recording, it perched on a branch, moved its head up and down in an apparent mating display, and then called in this recording before flying off.

Song from tame bird perching on exposed snags over road and regularly giving display flight, on sunny late afternoon after prolonged rain.

This recording is from a compilation covering short tracks for 97 species present in the lowland rain forest and edge habitats of the Lakekamu Basin, Papua New Guinea, in 1994-1995. Many recordings were made and only the best were included in the collection. Originals (on cassette) probably with more, and longer-duration, examples of many of the species are available from the recordist.

The Lakekamu Basin is an expanse of over 1000 km of alluvial lowland forest in Gulf and Central Provinces, Papua New Guinea. Main study sites (Korr and Sapwe) were both on the "Avi-Avi river, east branch" (on Royal Australian Survey Corps map 8182), known locally as Korr (Biaru language) or Sapwe (Kamea language). Korr camp: 7°47.3'S, 146°28.5'E, 40 m a.s.l., Oct 1994-Jan 1995. Sapwe camp: 7°44.1'S, 146°29.4'E, 120 m a.s.l., Feb-Mar 1995. These are supplemented with recordings from Tekadu (village in Eloa valley 10 km NE of Sapwe, Mar 1995) and Wau Ecology Institute (Morobe Province, Sept 1994), all concerning species found in Lakekamu.
