Hawaii Creeper - Loxops mana Brooks Rownd 2010-02-04 Kipuka Ahiu, Northwest Fragment, Hawaii County, Hawaii, Hawai'i (United States) (1800 m) alarm call, call -

A single Hawai'i Creeper calling (higher pitched voice), which attracts and excites a small group of i'iwi who are imitating its calls (lower pitched voices). The creeper came directly to me and began calling loudly from adjacent branches, so these may be alarm calls. Sony PCM-M10, internal microphones, converted by Audacity from original 96/16 WAV format. eBird checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S5858612

Hawaii Creeper - Loxops mana Brooks Rownd 2011-04-17 Kipuka Ainahou, Pu'u O'o Trail, Hawaii County, Hawaii, Hawai'i (United States) (1800 m) song -

Hawai'i Creeper near Pu'u O'o Trail in Kipuka Ainahou. This recording begins with the 'normal' creeper trill, and demonstrates it shifting to increasingly good imitations of 'amakihi trills thereafter. I have two additional recordings of the creeper imitating 'amakihi song very well immediately after this one. This behavior may be due to the small number of creepers at this location for this bird to communicate with regularly, and it may be answering the 'amakihi song heard in the background. Sony PCM-M10, built-in microphones, converted from 96/16 WAV recording using Audacity.

Hawaii Creeper - Loxops mana Brooks Rownd 2013-03-27 Station 11-27, below Nauhi Experiment Station, Honohina Tract, Hakalau Forest NWR, Hawaii County, Hawaii, Hawai'i (United States) (1500 m) call, female, juvenile -

A pair of Hawai'i Creepers recorded at stations 11-27 (first segment) and 11-28 (2nd and 3rd segments) below Nauhi Experiment Station in Honohina Tract, Hakalau Forest NWR, during the 2013 Hakalau Forest Bird Survey. The pair came within a few feet at both stations, during these recordings. Neither of the birds was an adult male, and juvenile begging was heard soon after the end of the last recording, so presumably this was a female and juvenile and the adult was the louder and more vocal bird during these recordings.

Sony PCM-M10, internal microphones, converted from LPCM 96/16 WAV using Audacity. High-pass filtered with settings 1kHz, 6dB.
