| Chestnut-bellied Cotinga - Doliornis remseni | Jonas Nilsson | 2014-01-22 | Cerro Mongus, Carchi, Carchi (Ecuador) (3400 m) | call - Calls in response to playback of Bay-vented Cotinga. These calls are from one of least three birds calling in the area; this cut is from an adult male that was accompanied by an adult female and an immature male bird (these were not the other birds calling). While calling it was raising its crest and flaring it sideways, showing chestnut, while holding its bill slightly above horizontal (as seen by Ian and Gordon Ellis while I was recording the bird). Habitat was elfin forest not far below treeline, and the bird was perched on an exposed perch on top of a tree. These birds were loosely associated with a mixed-species flock.
