Chestnut Rail - Eulabeornis castaneoventris castaneoventris James Lambert 2021-07-20 Micket Creek, Litchfield Municipality, Northern Territory, Litchfield - Pt A (Australia) (0 m) call, duet -

two pair calling/duetting, appears to be territorial; recording begins with the closer pair, at a distance of about 50m, across the creek; note the deep 'blooping' sound that forms part of the call; at 0:25 the first pair stop and a second pair, perhaps 200 (or more ?) to the south of the recordist, can be heard, presumably having started before the initial pair had finished; at this distance the blooping sound is not evident; seems that the typical vocalisations of this species are duets between a pair and are for the purpose of territorial marking; sometimes the duetting causes another pair to respond, but usually not; from my experience, Chestnut Rails do not respond to playback
