Australasian Bittern - Botaurus poiciloptilus John Graff 2012-10-18 Swamp near Cape Le Grande National Park, Western Australia, Australia (Australia) (Unknown m) Territorial Call, male -

Advertising call recorded in breeding season. Typical Australasian Bittern habitat in SW Australia, large swamp with dense stands of the rush Baumea articulata, interspersed with open areas of shorter sedges.

Recorded for my potential Honours research. Recording has been amplified for use here, otherwise hard to hear because of low frequency, and is a short clip (contains two boom trains) to stay under the 3MB limit. Longer recording in unaltered .wav format is available on request

Australasian Bittern - Botaurus poiciloptilus Dan Lane 2014-12-08 Christchurch, Christchurch City, Canterbury, Christchurch City (New Zealand) (0 m) song -

Natural song from an unseen bird in brackish tussock grass estuary along Avon River. This was the last of about four song bouts I heard. Later, a second bird flew in and landed about the same area, suggesting a nesting pair.
