Crissal Thrasher - Toxostoma crissale crissale Richard E. Webster 2014-10-18 San Simon Cienega, Cochise County, Arizona, Cochise (United States) (1100 m) song -

fourth in a series of about six Crissal Thrasher including Common Poorwill imitations, this the first part of a divided cut; I finally saw the thrasher, having gotten much closer, which was singing softly from an exposed perch on top of a short, dead mesquite in short, open scrub; at this point I did not see the thrasher open its bill when the poorwill call came, but I knew the poorwill call did not seem to overlay the thrasher song ever; some other mimetic phrases, like Northern Mockingbird, Loggerhead Shrike at 1:04, Chestnut-collared Longspur (!??, which it would hear, but only as a winter fly-over) at 1:06.3, 2:00 and 2:14, with wonderful set of mimetic type notes after 1:40; I am wondering if one is Sage Sparrow, but ?; Lark Bunting rasp? (which it would learn only on the Bunting's wintering grounds, here); recording is messy because I walked closer several times while wanting to keep it going, and I also used my binoculars trying to see when the thrasher opened its bill (not much some of the time);
