A little time before recording these calls, I had seen a pair of White-breasted Waterhens with five chicks in foraging in dense shrubs. When I returned to the spot, the family had separated, with one adult on one side of a pathway and the rest of the family on the other side in the same bushes. I assumed that the clucking sounds were made because of me, but then I noticed two feral cats under a car parked near by. The waterhen which has separated from the family was most likely a male, as it was marginally bigger than the other individual, and the black on the back a bit more glossier. The clucking sounds made by the male were occasionally responded by faint clucking sounds by the female.

I was at the Botanical Garden watching two waterhens. I started a recording and the birds came rushing looking where the bird was. They made a terrible noise
