The eastern yellow wagtail is a small passerine in the wagtail family Motacillidae, which also includes the pipits and longclaws. It was often classified as a subspecies of the Western yellow wagtail. Source: Wikipedia

Geographic range:

  • Motacilla tschutschensis [tschutschensis, simillima, zaissanensis or angarensis]: breeds eastern Siberia southward to western Transbaikalia, southern Siberia, northern Mongolia, Kamchatka, and Commander and northern Kuril islands, and far northwestern North America; winters to southeastern China (and Taiwan?), Philippines, and southeastern Asia from Myanmar eastward to Indochina and southward to Indonesia
  • Motacilla tschutschensis plexa: breeds northern Siberia; winter range incompletely known, but winters in southeastern Asia, westward perhaps to India
  • Motacilla tschutschensis macronyx: Ussuriland to northeastern Mongolia and central Manchuria; winters to southeastern Asia and southeastern China
  • Motacilla tschutschensis taivana: southeastern Siberia to Sea of Okhotsk and northern Japan; winters to southern Asia and Indonesia
